As most of you know, I do almost all of my restoration work myself.  I am very comfortable tackling a trashed piece of Heywood Wakefield and cleaning up other wood pieces, gluing up joints, upholstery issues and even trying such things as caning and Danish paper cord.  I took in a lovely original 'large' Diamond chair by Harry Bertoia for Knoll with intensions of restoring it for myself.  The large lounger style chairs are no longer in production, so these are very cool finds and it did not come cheap, but I paid a fair price for it knowing I would need to invest a few hundred dollars into it to bring it up to snuff for the next 60 years.  Here is a recap of my evaluation and plan of attack for completing the restore and I will continue to update as I move along.  This chair, by the way, was my holy grail.  Because I specialize in sourcing chairs, please know it is very hard to let these beauties go, as I love them all!  Each maker and designer I encounter is a new adventure in researching and love and I pour a lot of each into my projects.  I also am proud and happy as they move on to their forever homes.  Also, it feels good to know that my customers are investing into their furniture collection, rather than purchasing something new and inferior or even a replica of these fine original pieces.

Evaluation:  The chair itself is lovely.  It came with it's original fabric cover, which seems in good shape, however, the foam inside is dust and if there is one thing I have learned, DO NOT trust fabric (or foam) from the 50's!!!!  I can't just throw this in the washer.  Extreme care will be taken to preserve this cover when I am taking apart, removing the dust, cleaning and then putting replacement foam in and closing it back up.  In the event something goes terribly wrong, I can use it as a pattern for a new cover.....HOPEFULLY.  The chair itself is structurally sound, however, there are about 14 welds on the front of the seat that need to be welded back down as they popped up at some point in their life.  There is surface rust on the legs and base especially, but the rest of the chair is decent.

The Plan:  Ok so my plan is still in the formulation and finalizing stages BUT here it goes.  Found a welder on CL who can handle the tacking.  My best bud has a bunch of metal patio chairs he is going to get blasted so I am getting in on his action.  Turns out the blaster has a dad who powder coats, so bingo....I am hoping he can arrange that for me as well.  Since my chair will have to be disassembled, I will now look into ordering replacement rubber shock mounts...I believe they are easily available on ebay.   I will continue to log my progress as this project moves forward!

Inventory: I am adding lots of new items!  Please check the etsy shop often!  I have lots of awesome chairs!  Here is a peek at some new items:

SPRING SALE CONTINUES!

Live or traveling through eastern PA?  Stop by the Fleetwood Antique Mall on route 222 just south of Kutztown!  Not only is the mall full of unique and interesting items, there are a few of us dealing in MidCentury and the cool thing is, we all have different styles!  It's a nice breath of fresh air in an otherwise primitive area.  Also, unlike most malls in our area...NO CHALK PAINTERS!  👏  Anyway, come visit me on the 2nd floor, rear of the barn. My small space gets swapped out frequently as I remove furniture that sells online.  I only keep a small percentage of my online inventory there (and at my best price!) so if there is something you want to see, message me before you visit and I can get it out there for you.  Currently, I am offering 10% off a single item and 20% off 2 or more items in my booth.  This will continue through APRIL.  Please come on out and support my growing business!  I really appreciate it and the more things I sell locally, the less I have to pack!  😜

The latest rearrangement!  Sold the Herman Miller Eames Chairs this week and they are en route to San Bernardino!

PYREX!

I consider myself a pyrex enthusiast and am happy to have registered for my first SWAP!  In May, I will be spending a day at a swap meet in Maryland with like minded pyrex freaks swapping, selling and buying.  I will be taking my entire lot with me.  Sorry online friends, I have been keeping this hord in my booth as no one in my mall is selling it.  With that said, get in there this month if you want to add to your collection.  Only 2 sets are not included in the sale and that is because I did not mark them up much and know I can get my asking price if I put them in my etsy shop.  I will definitely be doing a write up on the swap so stay tuned!

LIGHTS. CAMERA. ACTION!

I have been sourcing some very cool lights!  My assistant has been working them over.  I have 2 great retractable flying saucer kitchen chandeliers!  A smaller one in brass, that is ready to go and already listed in the etsy shop, and a larger one in chrome that is being restored!  We are putting the work into them so they are ready to install.  The chrome light just got new bulb fixtures, a new switch, freshly polished and all electrical was tested for shorts and wear.  My husband is finishing up trying to make the retracting mechanism a little looser.  It works but a little service goes a long way!  Here is a preview!

I have more lights in the queue!  Stay tuned!!!!!   💡🔌💡🔌

I was tempted to keep this......but I have a Sputnik to clean up for us! 😻✌️

Barware!

Thank you to my new friend, Jenn, who reached out after finding my card at the Fleetwood Antique Mall!  I was able to help her thin some of her fabulous barware collection and will be able to assist in placing it in new homes.  This is exciting for me as she has some great pieces and sets!  I am still going through but have started listing.  If you know anyone who collects barware or you are thinking about starting, please consider some of these!  I have priced mine under my market, but please reach out if you are interested in multiples.  Most of these specimens are 30-40's era Art Deco and pre mid century.  Here is a look at some!

Hazel Atlas POLAR BEARS!

Hazel Atlas POLAR BEARS!

I am the only one with a decent sized set of this pattern as I can tell.  The shakers alone are selling for $100 and the ice buckets almost $70.  I cannot tell you how adorable it is!  The shot glasses are the larger 'double' size.

Hazel Atlas stripes

This pattern is very nice, more serious than the animals, but still fun.  These shot glasses are also double shot size, ice bucket is a petite 4" tall.

Hazel Atlas PINK ELEPHANTS

These elephants!  I am going to hang on to this set!  Although it is a rarer set, there are some available in my market and I think they look great with my pink flamingo pyrex! 💗

Hard to find Hazel Atlas COCK FIGHT

I am also hanging on to this!  I am all about kitsch and illegal kitsch is even better! 😜👍.

This decanter is a great piece!  Also pre mid century in age.  Really cool deco piece.

In like a Lion- UPdates and New Acquisitions.

Winter is not quite over as we are expecting some bad weather at the end of the weekend!  Surely any snow left by it won't last long!  Meanwhile, my sales are cranking!  In the last week my 2 coffee tables rolled off to new homes and various small items!  I thank everyone for welcoming these awesome items!  I have been buying to replace the items i have sold and spent today listing and updating the featured web furnishings.

So thick, so gorgeous, so rich.

So thick, so gorgeous, so rich.

First up is this fantastic runner by Edward Fields in amazing 18' length (width 4').  I can not say enough about it!  It is worth checking out the company website which details construction, matertials and history.  Knowing they placed pieces in the White House since Jackie O should speak for the quality.  It is heavy but should be UPSable rolled.  I have decided to include shipping in the price.  If you are close enough to meet or deliver, I can knock a little off.  This is long and will require a hall or large walk area to accommodate.  Please measure your space carefully!  In excellent condition, it features light grey background with orangy brown squiggles and cream splotches.  The pattern is BLING BLING.  The listing is live in my etsy shop now, click on the pic to open in a new window!

New Chair Set!

Set of 5 Made in Denmark Teak Dining Chairs in steel gray upholstery

Set of 5 Made in Denmark Teak Dining Chairs in steel gray upholstery

These adorable chairs feature 4 side chairs and one arm chair.  Teak is dark and lovely!  I suspect they would work well with rosewood.  Recently recovered, I am leaving the Sueded fabric.  The were oiled and loved and ready for a new home.  If you are looking for a great set for your table, consider them!  Marked only 'Made in Denmark', I have so far found none similar nor identified the maker.  I will keep looking.  In the mean time, You can find the listing on etsy by clicking on the pic and it will open in a new window.

I am also adding smalls!  Please pop by the etsy shop and keep up to date.  Some of the items I have been shipping out have not been here long!  I do suspect that furniture is going to keep the momentum as we roll into spring so please jump on anything you like before it is gone!  I have had 2 sales on Chairish in a week so will continue cross listing over there as time allows.

LOCAL NEWS

If you local peeps have not gotten to visit the Heywood Wakefield chairs at my booth space in Fleetwood Antique Mall, try to get over there this weekend!  I will probably remove them next week and replace with a few other pieces.  If there is anything you want to see email me and I will try to work it in for you!  Visit WED-SUN 10-6.

Thanks for following along!  Please share my page with your friends, design lovers, vintage fans and redecorators!  I appreciate your referrals!

Birthday week!

Another year older for me this week!  My week has started off great with my first sale on Chairish.com last week and my second sale this week! 🎉🎁✌️. That said, I am meeting my buyer in Elizabeth, NJ midday This Friday, so if anyone in the area would like to meet up for something delivered, please reach out!  Also anywhere on I78 through NJ and ABE.  It's a birthday road trip for me!  I will find something exciting to do on the way home for sure.

BARWARE!

I will be picking up some fabulous barware soon from a collector downsizing.  I mean nice sets of 40's era Hazel Atlas.  These are high end collector pieces.  If any of you are interested in barware, please shoot me an email and I can let you know first what I have available after I collect and go through it. I promised I would find good homes for this collection and I may keep a set for myself, because, well PINK ELEPHANTS!  😍😍😍.

NEW CHAIR!

I just added a GREAT chair to the etsy shop today.  It is US made by Norwalk Upholstery Co and dated 1974.  Norwalk is still in business making custom upholstered pieces and weathered many ups and downs but are going strong.  Always good to support these companies manufacturing in our country!  This chair is styled like a Danish lounge chair, made of heavy hardwood (maple or birch, my guess), stained a medium pecan with gloss finish.  A little chunkier than their Danish cousins, I am liking the gracefully sculpted arms.  So many companies made chairs of this style and unless marked, it is sometimes impossible to figure out it's origins.  This one is tagged.  Upholstery is really in excellent condition! No tears or stains!  Structurally, the seat could take some web tightening but at this point it is not bad off and I do not want to disturb.  I did have some webbing and foam done on my England chair and it was very inexpensive at a local upholsterer. (That cutie is still available as well!)Have a look!  It is a lovely khaki green with orange tweed.  I took the pics in the rising sun so a tad warmer than reality but you get the idea.

Inside light last evening.

Inside light last evening.

The Heywake chairs are still in my booth and will be for at least another week unless they sell online.  Please stop by if you are in the area and see them!  I would love your feedback! Have a great week!
